Glass Ceiling Presentation

How to remove glass shards from your hairThe Glass Ceiling: A 50 Year History

Do you remember the days when women had to struggle to achieve corporate careers, simply because they were women? The challenges faced by the early baby boomers and the lessons learned are reviewed in this interesting and interactive presentation by Louise Rothery, author of Lest We Forget: A Salute to the Women Who Entered Corporate America Without a Road Map.

The presentation starts with a look back to the late 1960s and the events that shaped a new generation of women, and moves into the early 1970s, when these women started to enter corporate America in large numbers. The obstacles they overcame were legendary. Their triumphs have paved the way for the young women of today, and yet many of their struggles and accomplishments have been lost in today’s fast-paced world. Ms. Rothery’s presentation gives a pat on the back to the early baby boomers, questions how far women have really come, and then passes the torch on to the new generation, pointing out that there is still work to be done.

This half hour presentation is fast paced, highly interactive, amusing, and generates a lot of thought and discussion. It has been given at:

  • The Deloitte Women’s Initiative in Boston
  • The New Hampshire Women’s Summit
  • The Siemens Women’s Affinity Network
  • The law firms of Holland & Knight and Pierce Atwood
  • The Peabody, Mass. Chamber of Commerce
  • Investors Capital Women’s Initiative
  • The Boston Business Journal gave a copy of the book to all 425 attendees at their 2010 Leading Women Breakfast, feeling it perfectly captured the challenges women overcame and strengths that allowed them to do so.
